This March marks the 15th anniversary of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident.
Over the past 15 years, conditions in the affected areas have changed significantly. Following the initial period of confusion after the accident and subsequent response phases, the region has moved into stages of recovery and reconstruction. As time has passed, radiation levels have decreased, daily life has gradually stabilized, and protective measures have become part of routine life, contributing to a greater sense of stability overall.
At the same time, however, some areas remain under evacuation orders, severe population decline continues, and relatively high radiation levels persist in certain locations. In addition, new challenges have emerged in the course of the recovery process.
This webinar is jointly organized by ICRP and our organization, with the aim of sharing the current situation in Fukushima 15 years after the nuclear accident through the voices of local residents.
On the day of the event, five residents from Fukushima Prefecture will be invited as speakers to share their experiences, reflections, and perspectives from their respective standpoints.
The webinar will be held online on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Time:
10:00–12:00 UTC / 06:00–08:00 EDT / 11:00–13:00 CET
To participate, please register in advance via the “Register here” link on the ICRP website.
During registration, you will be asked to provide basic information such as your name and country, and you will also see options related to ticket selection. These options represent voluntary donations. By selecting “For free,” you may participate in the webinar at no cost.
Donations received will be used to cover the operational costs of this webinar, including interpretation services. Should there be any remaining funds, they will be allocated to the operating expenses of NPO Fukushima Dialogue related to this webinar, such as transportation costs, video editing for materials used during the event, and equipment expenses.
Details of the program and information about the speakers will be announced at a later date.
By listening to what has changed over time and what remains unchanged, we hope this webinar will provide an opportunity to share worldwide the present situation in Fukushima and to reflect together on the future.
We warmly invite those who are interested to register and join us.
