On April 7, 2025, a presentation of research activities titled “Rigidity and Flexibility in Nuclear Power Plant Dialogue and Exploration” was held at Tomioka Working Base in Tomioka Town, Fukushima Prefecture. The presenters were Yuri Imaizumi, Kanaha Fukumoto, and Ayane Horikoshi. three third-year students from J. F. Oberlin University’s School of Education and Research. The event was attended by Chair Ando and Secretary Momma.
Over the past year, the three students, each with different backgrounds and motivations, have been conducting research on the nuclear power plant accident in Fukushima Prefecture from various perspectives. As the theme suggests, the “rigidity” in dialogues about nuclear power plants and the accident is something many residents of Fukushima Prefecture may be familiar with. The students’ serious engagement with these difficult-to-verbalize topics from the perspective of the younger generation left a lasting impression.
Despite the challenges of frequently coming and going between Kanagawa Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture for their research, and the time constraints, the presentation was well-organized. The attendees listened with great interest to the insights into the post-accident situation in Fukushima Prefecture from the perspective of the younger generation and outsiders.
